North Taranaki Kindergarten, Where Children Grow In Learning. Building Your Child's Future - North Taranaki Kindergarten Association, Ko Te Putahi Kura Puhou o Raro Taranaki

Community involvement

Family/whanau involvement is welcomed and encouraged at all Kindergartens

Teachers work in partnership with parents and whanau in providing for the educational needs of their children.

  • Parents and whanau are very welcome to stay for all or part of a session
  • The opportunity is provided for parents to share their skills and become more involved as a parent helper
  • Parents work with teachers to plan the educational goals for their child
  • Some sessions incorporate lunch - parents are welcome to share this time
  • Parents are encouraged to accompany children on excursions outside of the Kindergarten
  • Parents are always welcome to make a contribution by joining the Kindergarten Committee and perhaps eventually the Governing Board.

Each Kindergarten has a Committee that shares the management functions of the centre with the teachers.

The Committee is responsible to the Association. It's responsibilities are outlined in the Committee Handbook, and include:

  • Overseeing the finances of the Kindergarten
  • Strategic planning and review
  • Maintenance of the grounds and buildings (within Association Policy)
  • Liasing with the community about the way the Charter is being fulfilled
  • Employing cleaning staff
  • Fundraising
  • Supporting the teachers

Committee work, especially for the office holders, provides the opportunity for personal skill development. Also, being a member of the Committee leads to greater understanding of Kindergarten and Early Childhood Education.

The Kindergarten Committee is responsible for fundraising activities for specific projects like a new playground, veranda extensions etc.
